LIKE A STORM and SEETHER

Last night, June 29th, we went to the Commodore Ballroom to see Seether, with openers Like A Storm!

LIKE A STORM:
Like A Storm is made up of brothers Chris Brooks (vocals, guitar, didgeridoo), Matt Brooks (vocals, guitar) and Kent Brooks (bass, vocals) and drummer Thomas Karanasos. The brothers moved from New Zealand in 2005 to pursue a career in music and found a home in Vancouver. In 2009 they released "The End of the Beginning" gaining recognition not only from fans but many other musicians, being backed by bands like Shinedown and Puddle of Mudd. The band quickly grew a very loyal fan base, selling thousands of albums on their first tour! Many of their fans now sport LAS tattoos! In 2011, Like A Storm recorded four new tracks adding more aggression and energy to their songs that they never fail to demonstrate at their shows :)

How awesome is the didgeridoo???

They also performed a cover of ACDC's TNT, which Chris first performed on stage with Wes Scantlin from Puddle of Mudd.

At one point the whole band stopped to do shots on stage. Lucky for us, we caught Chris' cup!

We got Chris to sign it and certify that it was indeed his by writing "I drank from this!"

We both got signed posters too! I like that Kent personalized the posters and Matt thinks we rock! ;)

I had to buy a t-shirt as well!
We hadn't seen Like A Storm perform before and we were both blown away by their talent. They were also nice enough to stick around after the show to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures :) If you want more information about Like A Storm check out their website and definitely give their music a listen on MySpace. Also make sure to watch the music video for their single Chemical Infatuation.

SEETHER:
Seether is made up of Shaun Morgan (vocals and guitar), Dale Stewart (bass) and John Humphrey (drums). The band has release five albums, the newest of which is Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray. In each album, most notably in their newest one, the band tries to change their sound both vocally and instrumentally. Morgan has commented that evolution is key, in regard to music and in life. This is reflected in the frequent changes to the band's guitarist. Most recently, Troy McLawhorn, former guitarist for Evanescence has left the band due to friction with another band member.
Seether were originally named Saron Gas, but had to change their name when they were signed to Wind-UP Records because they didn't like the association with the deadly chemical nerve agent, sarin gas. They chose the name Seether because it was also used as a title for a song the band liked by Veruca Salt.

Seether's performance was studded by long instrumentals showcasing their abilities, including a five minute drum solo. There was also some intense strobe lighting during the show. Seether ended their set with singer Shaun knocking over two amps with his guitar and throwing something at the drums, which sadly meant no encore :(

Overall it was an amazing, high-energy rock show and I'm so glad I was introduced to Like A Storm's music!
