JIMMY EAT WORLD AND DAVID VERTESI

On May 21st, the Jimmy Eat World show took place at the Commodore Ballroom, a 19+ venue in downtown Vancouver. This was the first time I've been there and I will admit that I was impressed with the set up but was discouraged by the rowdy crowd that ensued from alcohol consumption. I found that this took away from the experience, but overall the show was fun!

DAVID VERTESI

On May 21st, David Vertesi opened for the Jimmy Eat World concert at the Commodore Ballroom. He joked that the only reason he got to open for them was because everyone was expecting the rapture. A lot of people in the crowd were very disrespectful to David by yelling "Jimmy Eat World" during his set. It was especially sad when people were screaming and talking during "Learn To Run," one of his most touching songs. For more info on David Vertesi, check out our old post from a more intimate venue and his website.
David Vertesi!

Peter Carruthers playin' some cello!

Here's a video we took of Dave talking about Jimmy Eat World:

At one point during the show, Dave commented that he grew up listening to Jimmy Eat World. He went on to say that he also grew up listening to the Spice Girls. The result is this video of Dave doing a cover of Say You'll Be There! We found it really funny that he chose this song, and we love him for it <3 Also note Peter Carruthers head-banging! He always looks so serious and absorbed by the music, it was nice to see him let loose!

JIMMY EAT WORLD

Jimmy Eat World was formed in 1993 in Arizona. The band is made up of Jim Adkins (vocals and guitar), Rick Burch (bass and vocals), Zach Lind (drummer) and Tom Linton (guitar). They have released seven studio albums and have had many hit singles including: "The Middle", "Sweetness" and "Bleed American". Oddly enough, the "Jimmy" makes no reference to the lead singer's name. The band found their name from a childhood drawing. Linton's younger brothers, Ed and Jim, were fighting one day. As revenge on his brother, Ed drew a picture of Jim eating the world with the caption "Jimmy Eat World". And the band name was born...

Singer Courtney Marie Andrews toured with the band, playing keyboard and singing back-up vocals!

A rare video of Jim Adkins addressing the crowd where he mentions that Vancouver is one of his favourite places to play!

Jim Adkins forgets to introduce Rick Burch until now and tries to make peace before returning to the tour bus:

Music Video Spotlight

Alright so, I have no objections to this music video. I just have one question. Did the singer used to be a bodybuilder? I've recently come across this band and I'm quite please with this song!

Here's Erase My Scars by Evans Blue; the official music video. Enjoy!

"30 Seconds to Mars is calling it quits" -@mtvnewscanada

Is this really happening?
Three recents tweets that caught our attention:

mtvnewscanada
Stay tuned to MTV News tonight for an exclusive clip from Jared Leto discussing how 30 Seconds to Mars is calling it quits #30secondstomars

30 Seconds to Mars fans can see the clip on the show tonight w. @aliyajasmine. Band discuss quitting after this tour #30secondstomars

mtvnewscanada
#30secondstomars fans, the clip is on the show tonight, we will tweet the link once online. We just did the interview, judge for yourself.
11-05-09 12:02 PM

This is intense. I would hope that if 30 Seconds to Mars ever thought about calling it quits, they would let their fans know first on their official website or through Twitter on each of their personal accounts? I kind of hope mtvnewscanada is just spreading rumours so that they'll get more viewers tonight...

Either way, these three tweets from mtvnewscanada have started an outrage on Twitter from the Echelon:

EchelonMOFO
Thanks to @mtvnewscanada for making the whole Echelon feel like a piece of shit. You just wanna make a good story but a lot of us are sad now
11-05-09 1:07 PM

But just as equally, there is a positive response from the Echelon as well:

DanderMars
So @mtvnewscanada get all the blame? Their job is to report the news. YOUR JOB is to support MARS through all their decisions! #Echelon

The 30 Seconds to Mars clip will air tonight on MTV News at 6:26 pm ET. Check back later because we'll post the link to the interview here once it goes up, but until then, lets all hope they're just discussing it or discussing how they won't quit.

Based on their interview with Kerrang! magazine, it seems like there is a possibility that there might not be another 30 Seconds to Mars album. Hopefully, mtvnewscanada interpreted that as 30 Seconds to Mars "calling it quits." Let us know what you think by leaving a comment. Do you think this could really be the end for 30 Seconds to Mars?

*UPDATE:
Here's the link to a clip of the interview: mtv.ca/news/fullpost.jhtml?id=1397
The full interview is supposed to be airing next week... :S

KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall, who's full name is Kate Victoria Tunstall, was born on June 23rd, 1975 in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is a multitalented singer-songwriter and guitarist but she also plays the drums, flute, piano and kazoo! She is most well known for her radio hits, "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See." For more information about KT Tunstall, check out her website at kttunstall.com!

Without further ado, here are some photos with comments from our guest blogger, Janet!

Check out the cool image behind KT Tunstall. It looks like it could be an alternate album cover for her latest album Tiger Suit!
[Tiger Suit is available on iTunes here.]

In this photo, KT Tunstall is seen with her acoustic guitar made entirely out of Talisker whiskey barrels!

KT told the audience that she has been taking piano lessons since she was 4 years old. However, in all of her albums, she only has three songs with piano in them. You can imagine how expensive each song is and how much they are worth in piano lessons!

Here KT is playing a kazoo to the bass line of "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes.

Here KT Tunstall is playing "Suddenly I See!"

This is Len, from a Boston thrift store. KT takes him along with her on tour :)

Overall, KT Tunstall is a very talented performer. She does the entire set on her own, recording beats and looping them throughout her songs. She is her own backup singer and was very entertaining, engaging audiences young and old. Definitely worth seeing live and I look forward to seeing her perform again!

These photos were taken at KT Tunstall's concert in Vancouver at the Venue on May 6th, 2011!
Thank you for the awesome photos and review, Janet!

 *EDIT*
I just wanted to add this photo of KT Tunstall's autographed cover of The Scarlet Tulip EP! It's only available at her live shows or on her website: kttunstall.com/

Also, upon completing our collection of KT Tunstall's albums, I realized how silly my comment about her alternate album cover was since the image behind KT Tunstall at her live shows is actually printed on the Tiger Suit CD!

Thank you for checking out MUSIC in Vancouver and we hope you come back soon!
