K'Naan:
K'Naan, who's birth name is Keinan Abdi Warsame, is a Somali-Canadian poet, rapper and singer-songwriter who produces "urgent music with a message." Born in Somalia, K'Naan is deeply influenced by the events in his home country and was first recognized when he performed a spoken word piece to the United Nations High commissioner for Refugees in 1999 which criticized the UN for its failed aid missions to Somalia. Youssou N'Dour, a Senegalese singer, was in the audience and invited K'Naan to participate in his 2001 album Building Bridges. Since then, K'Naan has toured the world and has worked in many other UN events while also producing his own albums. K'Naan is an enthusiastic performer who encourages the crowd to join him in a positive manner, but is also not afraid to speak out against haters, promoting a peaceful environment for his audience.
