CANADA DAY 2011

This past Canada Day, we decided to make the trip out to Surrey to catch some of the shows at the Cloverdale Millenium Ampitheatre. We were hoping to see Behind Sapphire's show but unfortunately it took us a lot longer to get to Surrey than we anticipated. But we did get to see several other bands-The Latency, Avairis, and Treelines.

THE LATENCY:
This was our first time hearing The Latency. Six years ago Brandon Lehti (vocals and guitar) met Ryan Stead (guitar) and Matthew Gendron (bass) at a local show featuring them all playing in separate bands.Signed to Maple Music in 2008, they are fairly new to the music scene but have already had the opportunity to tour with popular Canadian bands, such as Marianas Trench, Faber Drive and State of Shock. In 2009 they released their self-titled album and their second album is reported to be released shortly, including their new single "Music to Me". You can check out some of their songs on their MySpace page!

The next two shows were a part of The Peak Performance Project; a great opportunity for new bands trying to gain some more recognition! Also check out The Peak website for a free download from each of the twenty bands chosen this year!

AVAIRIS:
Formed by Deevin Avairis (vocals and guitar), Timmy James (vocals, bass, and banjo) and Mark Ednie (drums and vocals), the band came together as performing solo musicians in Victoria, BC. Their album Sweet Cheeks was released just yesterday on iTunes and you can purchase it here!

The drummer is sporting a Tegan and Sara t-shirt!

TREELINES:
We've been lucky enough to see a show by Treelines before, so for more info on the band check out our last post on them! As usual, they put on a great, high-energy show!

This shot proves Matt's a big hockey fan! Because that's what we're all looking at, right ladies?

Each set only lasted twenty minutes, but this resulted in energetic performances that showcased the artists' very best! Check out these local bands and show your support!
